This five-day training programme provides foundational knowledge and practical skills to understand and address human smuggling. It covers legal, operational, and protection frameworks, including international and EU standards, through case-based and interactive learning.

Participants apply rights-based approaches in realistic scenarios, strengthening their ability to implement effective, standards-aligned responses in their professional roles.

  • Describe the concept of "mixed migration" and identify the diverse profiles, protection needs, and vulnerabilities of individuals within such flows.
  • Describe the basic differences between migrant smuggling and trafficking in human beings, with reference to key international, regional, and national frameworks.
  • Differentiate between cases of smuggling, trafficking, and individuals requiring international protection during structured case studies reflecting mixed migration flows in Mediterranean contexts
  • Identify basic jurisdictional principles relevant to transnational smuggling cases, including maritime interdiction scenarios in cross-border, under lecturer’s guidance.
  • Apply basic international and regional legal frameworks to simple, guided scenarios involving mixed migration flows using provided tools within structured case studies.
