Assessment
To allow for a fair and transparent assessment that accommodates learners’ different learning styles, a three-pillar approach was adopted. Learners will be assessed based on the following:
Attendance:
A full mark implies uninterrupted attendance through the full course of studies.
Weight: 5 points
Formative Assessment:
Learners will be expected to participate throughout the duration of the course in group discussions and small group work. Other techniques used for formative assessment include the following techniques:
Learners are asked to answer questions posed by the trainer and other learners/sub-groups
Course recap and Q&A session (fourth day of training)
A formative assessment rubric will be used in order (1) to support consistent assessment practices (2) to communicate clear expectations to trainees, (3) ensure transparency and (4) pinpoint strengths and areas of improvement.
Weight: 25 points
Summative Assessment: Final Examination
Weight: 70 points
The final examination is divided into two parts:
Part 1: Written Component: Short Answer Questions – Free Narrative Text (7 compulsory questions)
Weight: 30 points
Allocated Duration: 90 minutes.
Sample question:
- Choose three (3) skills trainers are expected to have. Use examples of a training situation to describe why these skills are crucial (2 points).
Important Remark: the sample question above serves as an example to provide an initial idea of the type of questions that may be asked. Questions of the final examination may be revisited at a later stage.
Part 2: Practical Component: Preparation and Delivery of a Presentation (In Pairs)
Weight: 40 points
Allocated Duration: 270 min (3 sessions of 90 min each)
Learners will be grouped into pairs, and each pair will be randomly assigned a training method. They will have 30 minutes to deliver their session, followed by 15 minutes of joint feedback and a brief input on the use of the respective method. The instructor will assess participants based on the following dimensions, with each dimension carrying a 10% weight. Preparation time will be provided on Day 4 of the course (see agenda above Briefing and Preparation for Assessment Part 2 (Practical Exam). After-hours preparation is also included in self-study.
Learners will be scored individually during this assignment.
The passing grade for successful completion of programme: 60/100
